My yorkipoo has diarrhea with blood. When should I see a vet?

Hi! I have a 3 year old yorkipoo who for the past day & 1/2 has been having running diarrhea. Just a while ago I found a very small place of diarrhea w/just a little bit of blood. He has been acting himself. I’m kind of freaking out... (the second pic is from when I wiped it up)

When there is blood in the stool I do become a little more concerned. I would recommend a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice, however I would still recommend an examination with a veterinarian tomorrow. That being said if he had a very bloody stool tonight, one that looks like raspberry jam, then he should be seen immediately. If he is developing a problem called HGE they can get very sick very quickly. If he starts vomiting that also increases my concern. I hope he improves quick.

This presentation is usually due to a colitis, inflammation/infection of the last part of the intestine.
As most of the times this is dietary related, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.

I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice more diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

It sounds as Mason is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Occasionally this is self limiting and can be resolved with a bland diet for 3-5 days (plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken). However often, pets require medications and supportive care for the associated dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea (with or without blood) that comes with this disease. My dog has bloody poop. When should I call the vet and what to do?

I recommend to call your veterinarian today. They should ask many detailed questions and help you decide if Jennex should come in for an exam today or if you can try a bland diet +/- probiotics and see if it passes after 24 hours. In normal times, Jennex would go to the vet but with COVID-19, some protocols are changing. Blood in the stool significant significant inflammation or sometimes a more severe cause of GI upset. The blood could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the vet wants to see Jennex, the doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth so bring in a stool sample. A bland diet can help. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good probiotic is Purina FortiFlora if you can find it. My miniature poodle has bloody diarrhea. What should I do?

If Charlie has blood in his stool I highly recommend a veterinarian. Here they will look to see if he has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. This can be caused by ingesting something that upset his gastrointestinal tract. At the veterinarian they can hydrate Charlie and give medications to help this resolve. My maltipoo has diarrhea and noticeable blood in poop. Is it serious?

These signs may be compatible with a gastrointestinal inflammation involving the last part of the gastrointestinal system (colon). Presence of fresh blood in the feces is quite common but usually not very concerning unless other signs are present as well (lethargy and inappetence for example). As a first line approach a part from pepto tablets, I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. My dog has bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and poops often. What to do?

Poor Gambino! If he continues behaving normally then I would pick up his regular food and only feed him a very bland diet until your appointment - boiled skinless boneless chicken and white rice. Also I would bring a sample of his stool in for testing. If your vet is open this evening you may want to move your appointment so they can get him some medication to help with the diarrhea asap. If that is not possible and he has multiple jam-like bowel movements I would bring him in to an emergency clinic this evening. They can get dehydrated quickly with that much diarrhea. I really hope he is feeling better quickly !
