Why is there bright red blood in my dog's stool if he seems fine?

  Hello there! Bright red drops of blood around the stool usually indicates irritation and/or rupture of the tiny blood vessels around the rectum. This is usually not cause for concern, as having a large or uncomfortable stool where your dog is straining could cause this to occur. That being said, if Casper is acting ill, is vomiting or having diarrhea (especially if dark in color as this could indicate an upper-GI bleed), or if you see any worms or rice-like structures in or around your dogs stool, he should be seen by a veterinarian. Certain parasites and sometimes ingested foreign bodies can also cause intestinal discomfort and straining. If he is normal other than the few drops of blood and it doesn't occur again, Capser is probably a-ok.
