Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 13 lbs

I live in Connecticut, How soon should I start flee/tick protection for my dog? Do you recommend a collar or internal treatment? What brands work the best. Hi land does each application last before replacement?

I would recommend starting Flea and tick prevention now. If you use a collar I would recommend the Seresto collar. If you didn't want the collar than using a pill is typically the best for dogs. I don't see a lot of fleas and/or ticks when people use those products instead of topical. You can use Bravecto, Nexguard or Simparica. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
