My Rough Collie needs tick protection. What are the best options?

I recommend oral flea & tick preventatives. There are several brands, and all are effective: Nexgard, Simparica, and Credelio are monthly, or Bravecto which is given every 12 weeks. My top two are Nexgard and Bravecto. These are prescription products available from your veterinarian. Hope this helps!

I would recommend starting Flea and tick prevention now. If you use a collar I would recommend the Seresto collar. If you didn't want the collar than using a pill is typically the best for dogs. I don't see a lot of fleas and/or ticks when people use those products instead of topical. You can use Bravecto, Nexguard or Simparica. I recommend to use an additional product for ticks if he is going to be going into tick infested areas on a routine basis. This could be an oral preventive like Simparica or Nexgard. You should also use a tick collar like Preventic collar. You could also use one of the above mentioned oral products and something like Proheart or Interceptor for ticks. I recommend to discuss the best option with your veterinarian. Use a magnifying glass and make sure not to handle the tick with your bare skin. The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.

Your best option would be to use a monthly preventive to protect Teddy from ticks.. There are many on the market that are effective against ticks.
