Dog needs tick prevention for 2 weeks before switching flea/tick meds?

The manufacturers of flea and tick products do not recommend using more than one product at the time, as there could be an increased risk of side effects. Seresto is a very good product, it will be worth to give it a go but you should wait about 4 weeks after Luna had NexGard tablet.

Nexgard and Bravecto have oral chews that dogs can eat as treats. Nexgard is monthly whereas Bravecto is every 3 months. Both of these prevent against fleas and ticks. Heartgard is an oral medication that protects against heartworm and other intestinal parasites. There is a Seresto collar that can be worm by dogs to prevent flea and tick infections for up to 8 months. I recommend reaching out to your local vet to see which products they have available. I would recommend starting Flea and tick prevention now. If you use a collar I would recommend the Seresto collar. If you didn't want the collar than using a pill is typically the best for dogs. I don't see a lot of fleas and/or ticks when people use those products instead of topical. You can use Bravecto, Nexguard or Simparica. Wait about two weeks before putting the Seresto Collar on Oliver. Then it should be fine, In the meantime, check him every day for ticks and when you find a tick, remove it. This should tide you over until you can put the collar on him. Don't forget to vacuum your house often and put flea powder in the vacuum cleaner bag so the vacuumed up flea eggs and larvae will get killed. Make sure you vacuum all areas Oliver has access to.

Typically isn’t not recommended to combine two different flea and tick treatments. Because there is another month left of the Bravecto, I would wait until that’s done before putting the Seresto collar on Rissa. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you have access to the oral flea and tick preventatives (Nexgard, Simparica or Bravecto) they work the best. Or the Seresto Collar (lasts for 8 months). Otherwise I would use the spot on (advantixx, etc). I hope this helps!
