What's the best flea control for my dog: topical, collar, or chew?

Here is a selection of preventives: Spot-ons and/or chews: Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution I hope you find something that suits you and your dog.

The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.

I recommend oral flea & tick preventatives. There are several brands, and all are effective: Nexgard, Simparica, and Credelio are monthly, or Bravecto which is given every 12 weeks. My top two are Nexgard and Bravecto. These are prescription products available from your veterinarian. Hope this helps!

The only flea collar that appears to work well is the Seresto collar. And even then, I can have a slower rate of kill for the fleas. The top products on the market our oral products such as some Perica and next guard. For most pets, these are good options that I recommend to call your veterinarian first and doublecheck. Also, you will need to treat all the pets in the household for six months to make sure you get through the entire fleet lifecycle. Best of luck.

The chewable flea products are the best on the market and work the fastest. I recommend Simparica or Nexgard. You may ask about returning the collar and getting the flea oral flea products instead. The collar will work but not as quickly so Grim will get more flea bites (and hence more itching and skin inflammation) than if he was on an oral product. In my opinion ''topicals'' are best as collar tend to loose their efficacy pretty quickly. That is just a personal opinion based on my clinical activity and feedback from clients. I actually don't care much for sprays, in general - there are much better options for flea/tick control in dogs. My favorites are oral medications like Nexgard or Bravecto, but a Seresto collar or topical medication like K9 Advantix can also work well. If you really want to use a spray, I would suggest Frontline spray - it isn't always terribly effective for fleas, in my experience, but works well for ticks and should be safe. Many of the other over-the-counter sprays contain very harsh chemicals that can be dangerous, so I don't usually recommend them unless you have no other choices.
