Should I wake my 8-week-old puppy from evening naps to sleep better?

Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Having a puppy is sometimes a lot like having a baby or a small child! This is okay and normal behavior for a puppy to have bursts of energy at all the wrong times it seems. Her energy will start to settle out and habits become more regular as she gets a little older. Maintain a regular schedule for Biscuit (regular times for eating, potty, etc) and she will adapt gradually to that. Be patient!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, sleeping frequently during the day is not uncommon for puppies less than 8 weeks old. Puppies need a lot of sleep just like human babies do and will change as Sugar gets older. As long as Sugar is normal otherwise (is eating and drinking normally, has normal stool and urine, etc), I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. 6 week old puppies, like young babies, mainly eat, sleep and poop. There are periods of playing as well however they spend a long time during the day sleeping. As long as Tobi will get up and play periodically and seems happy and energetic when he is up, then I wouldn't worry. Best of luck with Tobi!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! They really sleep for the vast majority of the day. It is not unusual for puppies to not eat great as they get used to eating solid food. I would recommend you try different kinds of both kibble and canned food. If there is no improvement and he continues to not eat, I would recommend you consider having him evaluated by a veterinarian for that purpose and also to possibly establish care with a veterinarian for recommendations on preventative and early life care. This is very normal as a seven week old puppy is still an infant, and just like human infants will wake and cry at night. Tiring her out right before bed with a long play session, and then getting up 1-2 times in the night for a potty break can help reduce her distress and help her sleep longer. As she gets older, she should sleep more through the night.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While it may seem too simple, the best way to resolve this issue is by ignoring her when she tries to play at those times. Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to.
