Is my unvaccinated puppy safe playing in the yard with my dog?

It is impossible to know for sure if you have parvo in your yard. If you know for certain that your yard has never had another dog in it, Taz is likely fine to be in the yard. However, if you don't know for sure, I would limit the amount of exploring Taz does in the backyard to play it safe until 1 week after his final vaccination. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. To be on the safe side, I would wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated. Murph probably developed majority of the immunity already, put parvo is too dangerous disease to take the risk.

That sound be fine as long as no other dogs, coyotes or foxes have been in the yard. In general, a dog free, isolated back yard is fairly safe. The main concern is generally parvo which can survive in the soil for up to a year. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

I wouldn't take Koda into the backyard just yet because parvo can live in then environment for months. If her shots aren't complete, she still runs the risk of catching it from the environment. I'd take her in the front yard if your previous puppy hadn't gone there, but wait until she is fully vaccinated before taking her into the backyard. Best of luck!

It's fine to take her to your back garden only before she is vaccinated, as long as there is no access to other dogs in your garden. she can catch fleas so i would recommend treating her for fleas regularly once she starts to go out.

She will be protected and if she is kept away from other dogs, it's not likely she will bring anything back to the home that could infected the puppy. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a fine line between being too over protective and not socializing the puppy enough. I think walks on side walks and NON dog parks are fine. I think playing with healthy (not recently sick or currently sick) and 100% vaccinated animals is also fine. I do not recommend boarding, doggie daycare or dog parks until 2 weeks after the puppy's final vaccinations. So yes I think it absolutely fine for your friend to visit. Humans can carry viruses. If it has been 2 months since her previous dog died of parvo it is likely safe. She should leave her shoes outside and have clean clothes on. Have her wash her hands before playing with your puppy. If she recently, with in 2 months, had a parvo infected dog that is still alive in her house I would not have her visit. Good luck!
