Do unspayed female dogs want to breed? My dog died after puppies.

Does a mix German Shepherd and great dane female dog want to get pregnant at 2 years old our dog got pregnant had puppies and then died we think somebody locked her up and bread her

Your question is kind of choppy but what I think your asking is this "a two year old mixed breed dog got pregnant and then died so you want to know if someone made her get pregnant". If so, it is possible someone put her together with an intact male dog to make babies. If you are asking if she wanted to be pregnant the answer is probably yes. Intact animals are looking to breed. That is science and evolution- the goal is to have your genes carried on. No one would have to lock her up for that, she can seek that out on her own. IT is not uncommon for older bitches that have not been neutered to go in pup - it is possible she was previously too dominant to accept mating by the local males and her social standing is different with the new male or she may have very irregular or infrequent heat cycles. Be sure to closely monitor her for any evidence of twitching, confusion or seizures over the next 3-4weeks as older nursing mothers are more prone to low blood sugar and low blood calcium levels. I would recommend not breeding her anymore and getting her spayed. It is possible that she is unable to get pregnant again. If you would like to know for sure I would take her to a veterinarian for bloodwork to check her hormone level. However with her getting older it might be time to retire her and stop trying to breed her.

Should I breed my male and female dogs? How to stop unwanted mating?

My best advice would be not to breed them and to have them neutered. This ia mainly for their own health as neutering prevents many hormone related diseases such as some types of cancer and infections like pyometra. It is also associated with a reduction in hormone related behavioural issues. If you do choose to breed them there would be no way of preventing unwanted matings until they are 24 months unless you completely separate them. My female dog died during her heat cycle. What could be the cause?

I'm so sorry for your loss of Dazy. Unfortunately, it may simply be coincidental that her death occurred during her estrus/heat. Pyometras (uterine infections) can occur and be fatal in female dogs, but this typically occurs 2-3 weeks after the conclusion of the heat cycle. Without a necropsy (essentially an autopsy for animals), it is impossible to determine her precise cause of death. Again, I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

If she is in heat and has been potentially left alone with intact male dogs, there is always a chance she may be pregnant. The only way to prevent her from becoming pregnant 100% is to have her spayed, especially if you do not wish to have puppies. It appears that she has grass stains on her, which may have been from her getting out, or just playing in your yard. If she is acting ill, it is best to seek veterinary care to try and determine the cause and treat any injuries she may have gotten. If you suspect she may already be pregnant, taking her to the vet to confirm it is also best.
