Best ways to train a Husky basic tricks with short attention span?

As someone who has had Siberians for over forty years, I can assure you that he is not being bad. But you are correct in saying that you have to be smarter than he is. You must be very consistent with your commands, and enforce them every time. DO not give in to him if he wants to play and you don't. You ned to decidee right now, today, who is going to be the boss in your house . . . Atlas or you. I would advise that you take him to a good obedience school right away, so you can learn how to handle him. If any instructor tells you his is a problem, find a different school. Many trainers own easy dogs like Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, etc. and do not understand the SIberian temperament. Someone familiar with the Northern breed dogs would be your best bet. Having had Siberians for over 40 years, I can attest to the fact that they can be pretty determined when it comes to doing what they want. That is not to say, however, that they are untrainable. I would suggest that you stop two of your interventions right away. All dogs live in the present. They can't guess the future, nor can they remember the past. So a time out is absolutely worthless as a training tool. Further, offering a toy when a dog is misbehaving is actually offering a reward! Also, you need to be very judicious with hand-feeding, or she may dome to expect to be fed that way, and you'll have to break her of the habit. As long as she does not have any food sensitivities or allergies, I would recommend boiling some chicken or ground turkey to use as a tasty treat that is low in fat. This is what I have to do for my own dog. She will likely consider this a much more rewarding treat than plain kibble, and hopefully motivate her to be trained into a sitting or laying down position. I've trained my dog off leash by taking several group obedience classes. Then you can practice with her in a contained area, with distractions and with a trainer to supervise and give pointers. It's often difficult to train this without starting in a controlled situation. Working on come in your yard and house and walking beside you on a loose leash through the streets and past other dogs is where to start. Be patient this can take quite a while to get your dog reliable off leash, especially since she is still a puppy. In my experience training is an on going process. If you stop training the desired behaviors tend to wane over time. It may only take a few minutes a day to reinforce the desired behaviors and continue to train. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Puppies learn to explore with their mouth. Luckily she is young and can be trained with patience and consistency. First, make sure you have lots of treats handy. Second, have lots of toys handy. When you are playing with Luna and she starts to bite you, make a high pitched squeal. When she stops biting, tell her good girl and give her a treat or toy. When she chews on the toy, tell her shes a good girl. She will get the hang of it. For the crate, you need to get her used to it slowly. When you are home, feed her in there without closing the door. Put treats and toys in there so she can come and go when she likes. Slowly build up to closing the door for short periods. Give treats when shes calm inside the crate. At night, put something in there that smells like you. Be tough, don't crack before she does. Basic training at PetCo is a great idea! Good luck and congrats on your new baby. Sending kisses!

This can take some time and patience - he would much rahter be playing with you then spending time on his own! With some gentle encouragement however, including chew/food toys which keep him busy (there are many puzzle feeders you can buy or DIY models such as plastic bottles with small holes for the food to come out) and a regular routine he will learn.
