My dog's unvaccinated. Will I get in trouble taking her to vet?

Your dog does need to go to the vet for a check up. Preventative medicine is a lot cheaper than health problems and this is a chance to stay on top of things before they get bad if needed. You will not get in trouble at all... someone will be glad to help you get caught up in vaccines and go over things to monitor for as he gets older

If you do not have any records the Vet will determine how many DHPP vaccines she will need to protect her. It is in her best interest to receive the vaccines even if she had they before. The Rabies vaccine can be given in most state between 12-16 weeks of age. Your Vet will likely deworm her and get her on a good flea/tick and heartworm prevention. I would recommend taking your pup to the vet for a wellness exam and first set of vaccines - he/she can get you started on everything she needs. :) As far as getting her registered, I'm not sure what you mean? Your local city or county may require that you get a dog license for her, so you can check with your town hall or county courthouse to find out. If you're asking about kennel club registration, your breeder should have given you registration papers to fill out and send in.

The vet will perform a thorough exam to make sure she is healthy, check her for a microchip (which is linked to a dog's owner), and will likely deworm her and give her some vaccines. Most dogs receive a rabies vaccine and combination vaccine that includes common viruses that dogs are exposed to. The vet will also walk you through monthly flea, tick, and heartworm control and likely be able to tell if Fifi is spayed and an estimate of her age. Primo will need to go to a veterinary clinic. There, a veterinarian can perform a complete physical exam to confirm good health before vaccination. Core vaccines include distemper/parvo combination and rabies vaccines. She will need 3 combination vaccines spaced 3-4 weeks apart. A rabies vaccine can be given now and repeated next year at this time. She should also be dewormed and tested for heartworm then placed on the appropriate monthly preventatives against fleas, ticks, heartworm and intestinal parasites.
