My dog's tumor is bleeding profusely. How do I stop the bleeding?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 5 months old | 64 lbs

I want you to know how much I appreciate your services and your moral support has been a life saver, both for me and my Sweetie. Of late, she is responding well to care, eating and drinking well. Her tumor almost dried up with minimal discharge and clean with dressings every day. Since last night suddenly her tumor started bleeding profusely with drops and small clots of blood from the "holes" caused in tumor abrasions. Dressing is wet. I called a home vet, but can u suggest something plz?

I am not familiar with your previous questions regarding Sweetie but if the tumor is ulcerated, that is not typically a good sign. It sounds like tumor needs to be removed surgically. It is a bit difficult to advise you without seeing the tumor myself and I'm not 100% sure what your question is exactly. You want us to suggest something meaning what? To apply topically to the tumor? For bandaging? To stop the bleeding? I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for.

If the tumor is ulcerated she is most likely going to need to get some antibiotics. It is also very difficult to give you advice if we don't know your location. It does no good for us to recommend products that you cannot obtain in your area. Please post again with more information. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bonnie! Is Bonnie otherwise healthy? No hear murmur and normal blood work? How big is this bleeding mass? Personally I do not think that age is a disease. If Bonnie is otherwise in good health and the mass isn't huge I think you should consider removing it. If your Vet isn't comfortable you can see a different Dr with in the practice or another Vet. If you do not want to take it off you can try a light bandage around the neck until it hopefully scabs over. I wish you the best!

My senior cat's ear tumors are bleeding and won't clot. What to do?

It is difficult to guide you in the right direction without seeing the tumors myself, however, I would recommend having a veterinarian assess the ear canal to see if these tumors can be removed. If the tumors extend far enough into the canal and are causing problems (chronic ear infections, bleeding, sore, etc.) then the ear canal may need to be removed along with the tumors to ensure complete removal. Again, this is something I would have a veterinarian examine so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction!

How to care for a senior dog's bleeding paw tumor and ease discomfort?

No, there is not really anything you can do for the bleeding, unfortunately. What I would recommend is that you apply this Biozide Gel. Apply to the wound, put a non-stick Telfa pad on it and then bandage it. My dog's huge fatty tumor is bleeding. What should I do about it?

Poor guy. This does not appear to be just a lipoma (fatty tumor). I would highly recommend having Allie seen by your vet to get this tumor surgically removed and sent off for lab analysis to determine if this is a cancerous mass or a benign one. Hopefully it is benign and nothing to be worried about. The vet will likely place Allie on some antibiotics and pet friendly anti-inflammatory medication first to get the skin to calm down before surgical removal is done. But surgery is the best and often-times only option when a mass has gotten this large and has ulcerated. Until you can get her in, its best to clean this mass with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to keep it from getting infected. Then rinsing with sterile saline from your local pharmacy. My dog has a large, bleeding tumor on her leg. What should I do?

That is a very large tumor that has likely outgrown its blood supply and is opening up. You can’t tell what type of tumor it is without aspirating the cells. At this point, the best option is to remove the tumor but it’s so large that this may be difficult but not impossible. I recommend to have this pup seen by the veterinarian as she needs medications to help the bleeding and a mass removal. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

How to safely bandage a dog's bursting, bleeding leg tumor at home?

You can loosely bandage it with a gauze bandage. Make sure the bandage does not cut of blood flow to the lower leg. You could also wrap the leg in a towel and then tape the towel so it stays on. You can also get some Yunnan Baiyao powder and sprinkle it on the ulcer to stop the bleeding. This should be available from a chinese herb shop, organic shops and even your pharmacy.

My dog has a bleeding stomach tumor; antibiotics failed. What now?

I am so sorry to hear about Tilly. Unfortunately with many of these tumors surgical removal is the only way to fix the problem. If that isn't an option right now, in some instances depending on type of tumor placing the pet on prednisone may decrease the size but can have negative side effects (panting, increases urinating). Another consideration if the tumor is bleeding is a traditional Chinese medicine called Yunnan Baiyao. I would ask your vet if these are options for your dog.
