My senior cat's ear tumors are bleeding and won't clot. What to do?

I am not familiar with your previous questions regarding Sweetie but if the tumor is ulcerated, that is not typically a good sign. It sounds like tumor needs to be removed surgically. It is a bit difficult to advise you without seeing the tumor myself and I'm not 100% sure what your question is exactly. You want us to suggest something meaning what? To apply topically to the tumor? For bandaging? To stop the bleeding? I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. If the tumor is ulcerated she is most likely going to need to get some antibiotics. It is also very difficult to give you advice if we don't know your location. It does no good for us to recommend products that you cannot obtain in your area. Please post again with more information. Thank you.

Complete surgical removal of the mass and the remnant of ear tissue is probably the best and most effective way to treat it. I would recommend to discuss it with your vet as the best treatment option should consider her full clinical status (basically other problems if present).

This is a seriously big tumor and needs to be removed ASAP before it spreads to thee inside of the ear. It is obviously painful or bothering the cat, which is why she is scratching it drawing blood. This in turn may cause infection. Please encourage your neighbors to take Baby to a veterinarian and have that tumor removed surgically.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely a malignant tumor unfortunately. Cats are very well known for having a mouth tumor called squamous cell carcinoma which carries a poor prognosis. However, it could still be something else and this is quite inside of the mouth unless there is also tumor on the inside. The only way to know is by doing some sampling via fine needle aspiration or possibly a biopsy. If squamous cell carcinoma is confirmed, it is not likely at all to respond to steroids or antibiotics much other than mild decrease in inflammation. Treatment for squamous cell carcinoma is limited by how aggressive this tumor is though sometimes surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are options. Sorry for the sad news. That type of behavior of coming and going is typical of a mast cell tumor though of course that is not the only possibility. Another possibility is a recurring infection. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. I'm sorry to hear that Baby Kitty's ear has been such a problem for her! Surgery is generally the treatment of choice for aural hematomas, but these issues can also develop scar tissue over a period of at least 6-8 weeks. If Baby Kitty has an ongoing ear infection, this could also exacerbate any head shaking, preventing scar tissue from forming appropriately. No surgery ever offers a definitive guarantee, but it seems that surgically addressing the hematoma would be less invasive, less painful and likely less expensive than removing the entire pinna (ear flap). The only pinna amputations that I have seen have been due to cancerous masses on the ear because the surgery can be very painful and cause a significant amount of bleeding. Consider discussing this with your vet and have her ears checked to assure that an infection is not present and causing irritation. I'm glad to see that she has an e-collar on - keep it up! Avoid using the transdermal medication on her right ear for the time being and be sure to clean her left ear prior to each application. I hope that all goes well!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bonnie! Is Bonnie otherwise healthy? No hear murmur and normal blood work? How big is this bleeding mass? Personally I do not think that age is a disease. If Bonnie is otherwise in good health and the mass isn't huge I think you should consider removing it. If your Vet isn't comfortable you can see a different Dr with in the practice or another Vet. If you do not want to take it off you can try a light bandage around the neck until it hopefully scabs over. I wish you the best!
