My Shih Tzu puppy's eyes look crossed. Is her vision okay?

She looks very sweet and her eyes look fairly normal. Cross-eyedness is not a sign that the puppy will go blind. There are many dogs that are a bit cross-eyed and they have absolutely no health problems with their eyes.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like Miles's third eyelid is slightly elevated on that side. Either that, or he has what is called lateral strabismus. This can occur in puppies but should resolve as he gets older. If his eye ever becomes more deviated to the left, or if the other eye starts deviating out, he should be seen by your veterinarian. Otherwise, I would give him a few weeks to see an improvement. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the right eye looks slightly larger than the left eye because of the pigmentation of the left eye. I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. At this young age there is sometimes a problem with the muscles controlling the eye, they might be weak or underdeveloped. this usually resolves by the age of 2-3 months though, just monitor it for now and have it checked by your vet when you take Scout to his first visit.

This could be a developmental issue or a neurological problem with one of her ocular nerves. Unfortunately, it is impossible to say how this will improve, but it will hopefully not cause any problems for her vision.

She doesn't appear walleyed in the images provided. She is absolutely adorable! Strabismus is typically hereditary. There is no treatment for inherited strabismus. Unfortunately, the certification does not include genetic testing. The parents may be of normal phenotype and appear normal, but can carry the abnormal genotype responsible for the condition.

In some breeds the eyes can get a little red with excitement, when they are tired, etc. As long as Olaf's eyes do not seem painful: excessive blinking, holding an eye closed, excessive tearing, yellow or green discharge or rubbing them it is fine to wait until your appointment next week.
