Is a puppy's cross-eyed or lazy eye normal? Will they go blind?

At this young age there is sometimes a problem with the muscles controlling the eye, they might be weak or underdeveloped. this usually resolves by the age of 2-3 months though, just monitor it for now and have it checked by your vet when you take Scout to his first visit.

Based on her breed (shih tzu or a mix of one) strabismus (or slight malposition or misalignment of the eye ball) is normal. This does not affect their vision at all! I hope this helps!

It looks like the right eye is a little 'wall eyed' but most pets will not have any problems with this condition. While it's not 'normal', it's also not uncommon. This could be a developmental issue or a neurological problem with one of her ocular nerves. Unfortunately, it is impossible to say how this will improve, but it will hopefully not cause any problems for her vision.

This may resolve over time as the puppy grows more, but it is best to keep an eye on it to see if this is a persistent "cherry eye" situation, which can lead to necessary eye surgery. It does seem like her eyes are bulging out a bit in your picture. I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian. Eyes bulging can be a sign of glaucoma (although this is typically painful and the eyes are usually red) or could be related to diseases like extraocular myositis. Tetanus is another disease that can cause both eyes to bulge but you would notice stiffness and difficulty walking as well. If you notice redness or she starts to seem painful you should see a veterinarian right away as glaucoma is an emergency.

She doesn't appear walleyed in the images provided. She is absolutely adorable! Strabismus is typically hereditary. There is no treatment for inherited strabismus. Unfortunately, the certification does not include genetic testing. The parents may be of normal phenotype and appear normal, but can carry the abnormal genotype responsible for the condition.
