Why is my senior Boston Terrier's scrotum rupturing and lethargic?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 20 lbs

10 yo Boston terrier has something rupturing from his scrotuum through the skin, has become lethargic lately and now this. Still eats and drinks normally. What's going on? Please give me some idea. Thank you

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to see that Kramer is having trouble. It's a bit difficult to see what is going on in the picture but if some pink tissue is protruding from the skin, you should have him evaluated immediately. Without adequate care tonight and an Elizabethan collar, he may do a lot more damage to the area by licking it. I would get him seen right away. Your vet can evaluate what is going on and then advise you on how this condition needs to be treated. An open wound can become contaminated and infected rather quickly and if not treated right away may lead to bigger problems soon. Good luck with Kramer. I hope you can seek care right away for him. If you are unable to do that, I would make sure that he has an Elizabethan collar on so he cannot lick the area and make it worse.

Poor Timmy! That looks very painful. It's difficult to say for sure from just the picture but it appears that Timmy's scrotum and testicles are infected or even that the scrotum has ruptured. Tummy needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away as he will likely need surgery and prescription antibiotics to treat this issue. He will need to wear an e-collar to prevent him from licking the area. He will also need prescription pain medication as this looks very painful. What's this hole on my dog's scrotum? He won't stop licking it!

I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. It looks like in the picture a hole has formed in the scrotum. This could be a ruptures abscess,trauma, neoplasia or parasite. The testicles need a exam along with the prostate. I would recommend a elizabethan collar to prevent licking until you make it to the vet.

My dog's scrotum is red, black, and has open wounds. What to do?

If Tomy sat in something irritating, it may have lead to him licking and chewing at his scrotum. I would recommend getting a plastic cone and placing this around his head and using an ointment such as Sentry Wound Cream which can be found online or at your local PetCo. If the wound does not improve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Tomy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! My senior dog has swollen testicles and a wound. What are my options?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Cutler isn’t feeling well. Without seeing him it’s very hard to say what’s going on and how to treat him. I do recommend he is seen by a vet to determine what’s going on. Being an older, intact male, I would be worried about something going on in his testicles or prostate. In the meantime, you could try applying a cold compress to his scrotum for 10-15 minutes a few times today to see if that helps with the swelling. After 24 hours, I would switch to a warm compress (not hot). If that doesn’t improve, I would recommend an exam. Good luck and kisses to Cutler!

Hello. Poor baby. He needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. I cannot tell if this is a tumor or somehow the penis has been trapped outside the sheath. Either way, he needs immediate care, especially if whatever is going on prevents him from urinating properly. This looks very painful & I hope you can have him seen quickly. Why is my dog's scrotum dark, peeling, and he won't stop licking?

Hello there and thank you for posting your picture and concern about Choppies! From the picture you sent, it looks like Choppies has caused quite a bit of irritation and inflammation on his scrotum. I would pick up a plastic cone from the pet store to put around his head so that he is not able to lick this and then get him in to see your veterinarian for an examination. There are multiple possible causes of this, which include thermal burn, inflammation of structures inside the scrotum causing Choppies to lick due to the discomfort, infection or behavioral. My senior Boston Terrier has a mass. What is it & how to get help?

This ball could be a vaginal prolapse, which does require immediate medical attention. When a tissue is displaced from it's correct anatomical position, it needs to be returned to it's correct place or else the tissues can become infected and/or die. I would take Angel into a vet right away. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online.
