Why is my senior pug scooting, peeing, and has brown smelly ears?

I recommend having him seen by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. I would be worried that he had a seizure or a stroke. Your vet can perform a physical and neurologic exam to see if they can localize the problem. They may recommend bloodwork to check for underlying disease that may have predisposed Jinx to have a neurologic episode. I hope this is helpful!

It is certainly concerning that Hunnie seems to be in more pain, and it is possible that a lower urinary tract issue or potentially rectal pain or itchiness is causing her to lick her rear end. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian since these signs are new. They might want to check a urine sample or blood work after performing a physical exam. If she is not on pain medication, this could help her feel more comfortable and potentially increase her mobility for a little while. Usually kidney disease causes signs like a decrease in appetite, vomiting, or increased thirst and urination.

I am so sorry that Puffy is having this issue. I would recommend having an x-ray performed to rule out or in stones. If she has bladder stones then ideally she would have surgery. If she is about 10 years old I wouldn't be concerned about the surgery as long as her physical examination is good and her blood work is good. If she does not have bladder stones I would recommend getting a urine culture performed and potentially an ultrasound of her bladder. The urine culture will definitively rule out a urinary tract infection while the ultrasound will make sure there is no mass in her bladder. At her age there are several things it can be. Your vet can collect a urine sample to check for a urinary tract infection. They can always draw some blood to check her kidneys and blood sugar and for Cushings disease. All these can cause an increase in drinking and urination which will lead to accidents. If all of that is normal, than she may be getting incontinent and they have medication for that also!

Poor Buccs! It sounds like he has a couple of things going on. Urinating within the house can be a sign of a medical problem, such as bladder stones or a UTI. He is also an older dog, and his back leg could be hurting him due to arthritis, which is common in old dogs. As for not wanting to come back in, he could be suffering some confusion at his age, or there could have been something that frightened him, and he doesn't want to come back in due to that. All of this requires a trip to the vet. The vet can do routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to see if he does have a UTI or bladder stones, and can treat accordingly. If he does have arthritis, the vet can prescribe him some pain medication, and I would recommend giving him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis. The vet can also discuss strategies to help bring him back inside without a leash. I would take him into a vet today for a visit.

Older pets can have issues with bladder control due to neurologic problems. If Cheyenne is retaining urine at times and leaking after urinating, she likely does not have good bladder control. I would recommend that she is seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Retaining and/or leaking urine puts Cheyenne at an increased risk for urinary tract infections. Left untreated these issues can lead to permanent damage to the bladder and kidneys.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cruz! I recommend a Vet exam, full blood work and have his urine tested. As dogs age sometimes they develop dementia and that can cause new abnormal behaviors. Though I am more concerned for a metabolic problem for him licking up the urine.
