Why is my old dog peeing blood, scooting, and having accidents?

If she has bladder stones, she needs to have them removed because they will irritate the lining of the bladder causing bleeding and other complications. Once the stones are removed, they can have them tested to determine what kind of stones they are and can put Puffy on a special diet to help prevent them from forming again. I would also recommend having her spayed at the same time to prevent a life-threatening infection that can occur within the uterus causing her to need emergency surgery. There is a chance the blood in the urine is coming from her uterus but if a vet saw stones in the bladder, that is more likely. Good luck and kisses to Puffy!

He could have a urinary tract infection so he should be examined by a vet. Your vet can run a urinalysis to look for infection and other potential causes. He could also have urinary stones, prostate problem, tumor, etc. If he has an infection then he will need an antibiotic to treat.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It becomes concerning when an older dog develops blood urine that is non-responsive to antibiotics. Having blood in the urine with out bacteria can mean a bladder stone or a bladder tumor. Tests I would consider next would be a urine culture, one belly X-ray to look for a bladder stone and full blood work. If the culture is negative and the X-ray doesn't show a stone then I would worry about a bladder tumor. An ultrasound of her bladder would help diagnose if she has a bladder tumor. Another option before doing more testing is to try a more powerful antibiotic for 3 weeks. But if the blood is still present with out the presence of bacteria then I would go forward. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Peach evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. The masses under the skin can be due to a benign or malignant growth. Both of these conditions can be linked or be completely separate issues. A urinalysis and urine culture can be performed to check the urine. Abdominal imaging may also be recommended. The lumps could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Poor Snic! Frequent urination with blood at the end of the urine stream could be caused by a few different things - even if she doesn't act painful, this is definitely not normal. The most common causes of these symptoms in an older female dog like Snic would include a bacterial UTI, bladder stones, or even a bladder tumor of some kind. I would recommend taking Snic to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis and may also recommend x-rays or ultrasound of her bladder to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

The most common reasons for straining to urine, urinary accidents and bloody urine are: urinary tract infections (UTI), crystals in the urine, bladder stones and if she is an older dog a bladder or urethral tumor. I recommend collecting a urine sample and bringing her to the Vet before the weekend as she is very uncomfortable. The urine sample can determine if she has an infection or crystals and an X-ray is needed to check for bladder stones. I wish Chi Chi a speedy recovery!
