My blind senior dog's eye is turning blue/grey. Is a vet check needed?

It sounds like your dog may have cataracts, which can occur as dog’s age or with diseases like Diabetes. If this change has occurred suddenly I would recommend having Coco checked out as soon as possible. If it has been a gradual change it is probably less concerning. I hope this helps. Lily could have cataracts causing this cloudy pupil, but it could also be due to an eye infection or glaucoma. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Lily seen by a vet immediately, who can diagnose what is causing her cloudy pupil and can discuss treatment options with you.

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Shiloh's eye. Any haze over the cornea or in the eye is a great concern, as it indicates there has been some trauma or there is some ongoing disease happening in the eye. It is very important that you have Shiloh seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, not only to prevent further & permanent damage to the eye, but to make sure he is not in pain. This could be a normal pigment change with age. If you could post a picture that may help identify what exactly is going on. However if his eye is normal, he's not squinting, no tearing, no discharge then it's likely a normal change for him.

(Probably happened when crashing through the wood pile.) If you have one or can get one from a pet store, put an E-collar on Lizzi to protect it from further damage (scratching/rubbing at the eye). Then get in to see your vet tomorrow. They may recommend a special stain to confirm this idea and will prescribe an eye ointment or drop to help. Best of luck to you and Lizzy!

What a beautiful girl! It does look like her left eye and pupil are larger than the right. There could be a few reasons for this including increased pressure (glaucoma) or a mass behind the eye that pushes it forward and makes it appear larger. I would strongly recommend an examination by a veterinary ophthalmologist to fully evaluate her eye and her vision to see what can be done for her.

When this happens to one pupil it is known as aniscoria. The pupils should always be the same size. There are many reasons it can occur but considering you say you saw a blueness in the eye previously, I would be suspicious of a type of inflammation called uveitis. You will have to head to the vet to get Abbie an eye exam to determine exactly what is going on and get her the appropriate treatment. If it is uveitis it is usually treated with eye drops.
