My senior cat's eye is larger, cloudy, and she misjudges jumps. Should I worry?

Hello. In terms of your cats, the first one with the eye getting bigger than the other really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Glaucoma is a very serious condition and in order to not lose vision in the eye you want to treat it right away. This is also a very painful condition. The other cat, with a bump that looks like a zit, could just be a sebaceous cyst. It is always best to get it checked out, however if it isn't growing or changing, or causing your cat issues, you can monitor it for now and have it seen at your next appointment with your vet. I am not quite sure. It may be that you are seeing a severely dilated pupil. Some disease can cause hypertension, which if unmanaged for some time, can cause damage to the retina which causes a dilated pupil and blindness. I would recommend that you have Tiger examined by the vet. They can look at the eye and do bloodwork and blood pressure testing to see what is going on. Some of these cases can be reverse, while others the blindness will be permanent.

It's a little difficult to tell in you picture but it looks like there is something in the anterior chamber of Lady's eye between the iris and the clear cornea - this might be inflammatory cells or the iris may be bowed forward. A cataract is an opacity on the lens behind the pupil. Lady's eye definitely looks abnormal and I would worry about her vision in that eye however - I would recommend having a vet examine the eye in person to determine what might need to happen next.

There is anisocoria (the two pupils are unequal in size) and possibly ptosis of the upper eyelid (the eyelid cannot open normally) on the left side (where the pupil is bigger). There are many causes that can provoke this presentation: -Corneal injury such as an ulcer. -Disease or injury to the brain or to the nerves running to the affected eye, such as Horner’s syndrome. -Glaucoma, a disease in which there is increased pressure within the eye (the pupil in the affected eye will be dilated). -Uveitis, or inflammation of the interior of the eye (the pupil in the affected eye will usually be constricted). -Retinal disease. -Scar tissue formation between the iris and the lens (called posterior synechia), a condition that may develop following uveitis. -Iris atrophy (a decrease in the amount of tissue within the iris) usually a degenerative change associated with aging. -Congenital defect of the iris, in which the iris tissue does not develop properly. -Cancer within the affected eye. -Spastic pupil syndrome - a syndrome that may be associated with feline leukemia virus infection. -Other infectious diseases such as feline immunodeficiency virus or toxoplasmosis. Unfortunately is difficult to be more specific than that and a clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. Hello, I agree that Buddy's left pupil appears more dilated than the right. This could be associated with age related atrophy of the iris (makes up the pupil). However, cats can get cancer of their eye and this it would be best to have him evaluated to ensure there is not mass growing behind the pupil and to rule out other potential abnormalities within his eye. It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. I would recommend that Monet see a veterinarian. Sudden onset of blindness and dilated pupils can be secondary to high blood pressure in older cats. They can suffer from hyperthyroidism or a heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Both of these geriatric cat problems can cause these changes with her eyes.
