My older dog has a cloudy eye, but sees fine. Is it just aging?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | unspayed | 18 lbs

Hello, my dog has developed a cloudy pupil on just one eye. She is an 8 year old female bichon. I'm assuming it's just a normal part of her aging. There is no discharge and everything else seems fine, she doesn't bump into things and from what I can tell she's not having trouble seeing and getting around in the dark.

Lily could have cataracts causing this cloudy pupil, but it could also be due to an eye infection or glaucoma. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Lily seen by a vet immediately, who can diagnose what is causing her cloudy pupil and can discuss treatment options with you.
