Can I safely mix different dog food brands and use dog food gravy?

The brand doesn't matter but is always a good practice to change food gradually. Abrupt changes to Leo's diet could result in gastrointestinal disturbances that lead to vomiting and/or diarrhea. I do not recommend supplementing a complete & balanced dog food with anything. The granulated gravy may add flavor, but it's not adding any nutritional value for Bailey. However, as long as you keep fresh water out all the time, and Bailey has no underlying health conditions which would require food modifications, it's not a big deal and is likely fine to continue.

In general, if you're making a change, it's best to gradually start mixing in the new food over the course of at least 2-3 days rather than switching all at once - this helps to avoid GI upset related to a sudden diet change. As long as you do this, it's fine to switch to a different flavor or brand if you want to.

It is not typically not a problem to offer to different brands of food especially if you are using small amounts of canned food to entice her appetite. If you cannot find a large breed puppy formula canned food, then I would use an adult version. Being a giant breed dog, you what her to grow very slowly. As with any diet change, monitor for any vomiting and diarrhea. Problems are usually seen when abruptly switching from one dry brand to another without mixing the food or going from dry kibble to strictly wet food again without a gradual transition. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the bag says it is for "All Life stages" then it is fine for growth (meaning for puppies). I would try to not add human foods. If your dogs won't eat this food well I would try a different brand or try adding water to the dry food or even add a tablespoon of canned food with water. Adding human foods is a slippery slope. Yes that can work, but I would advise against rotating flavors and brands. That's because sudden changes in food can cause GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. It's best to stick with one brand and flavor. Dogs do not need their food changed :-)

Sure! You can add water to make a gravy with the food. However, if it sits too long it turns pretty mushy and sometimes dogs won’t eat it with such an odd consistency. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
