Is it safe to mix different brands of wet and dry dog food together?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | neutered | 10 months and 29 days old | 70 lbs

We just recently started giving my dog wet and dry food mixed together. We’re feeding him Natural Balance for both wet and dry food, but my question is, do both the wet food and the dry food have to be from the same brand? Or does that not matter?

The brand doesn't matter but is always a good practice to change food gradually. Abrupt changes to Leo's diet could result in gastrointestinal disturbances that lead to vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Take a look at this website that will give you some tips to how to gradually switch to the new food: https://www.hillspet.com/dog-care/nutrition-feeding/effects-of-changing-new-dogs-food
