How safe is it to adopt a street puppy and take it to the vet?

I would recommend seeing a veterinarian for an exam and routine vaccines. They might also recommend checking a stool sample for parasites. He should also be fed a commercial dog food for optimal nutrition.

It depends on your location. There are many street dog rescues in India that would be happy to help you with adopting the Rosy. These organizations also vaccinate for rabies. I recommend doing a google search of your area for the dog rescues. They will at-least be a good source of information for getting her a vet exam, vaccination, deworming and desexing. You can also ask your local government vet, or pet supply store. I hope that helps and all goes well with Rosy. Street dogs are my favorite!

You are so lovely to want to take this dog home and adopt him! Yes, he will be fine if you take him home by placing him in the car yourself. He will adjust, and he will be happier living in a home where he will have proper shelter, food, water, and healthcare.

That's so sad that someone dumped Alphonse, but how lovely of you to take him into your home! Given that the person dumped him, I would suspect it's not very likely that he has any vaccines. It seems like to me that someone who would dump a puppy wouldn't care about their health and wellbeing. I would definitely take him into the vet to get his vaccines done. There isn't a danger of repeating them in a short period of time; in fact, to get a dog his age fully vaccinated, he needs at least two series of the vaccines given four weeks apart. Since you live on a farm, I would speak to your vet about getting him the leptospirosis vaccines as well as rabies and DHPPi (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza). Rabies is always a possibility if there are sick dogs in your area, or other wildlife that carry it. There is a rabies vaccine available for people, however if you are caring for the animals, watching for signs of illness and bringing them into a vet for care right away is best as well as seeking care immediately if you are ever bitten. If you are able to capture the animals, getting them vaccinated can also help prevent the spread of illness from them to you and to other animals. You can also continue to feed any strays by setting out food without interacting or petting them, and then making sure to thoroughly clean any dishes used in between uses. Seeing if there is a local animal shelter or rescue in your area that you can volunteer for can also help you care for the animals in a safer, more structured manner.
