Is rosemary extract in packaged ground turkey safe for my dog?

The most important thing to know is that some essential oils are purified to be consumed and some are not. I'm sure that the pet food companies use the purest of essential extracts and oils when making food due to the high likelihood of making pets sick which can cripple a company. The purified extracts and oils are made for pet and human consumption, having the other chemicals in them purified out. I'm sure it's ok and rosemary is under extensive study due to it's anti inflammatory properties and cancer fighting properties. Good question and good luck with Annabelle.

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The occasional small piece of turkey deli meat as a treat is unlikely to do any harm. But I would still monitor for any signs of GI upset (like vomiting or diarrhea) and stop giving the turkey if any GI signs occur. I would also suggest only giving small amounts of the deli meat especially if your dog is a smaller dog. Giving too much could end up causing diarrhea, vomiting or in severe cases, pancreatitis.

It shouldn't make him sick, if it does withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days.

Ground turkey (cooked and drained) mixed with equal parts of plain, white rice would be better. One teaspoon of plain pumpkin (NOT pie filling) can be mixed into the food to provide extra fiber. Too much pumpkin may cause stomach upset.

This can cause pancreatitis in a small dog such as your Puppy. If he starts excessive vomiting and has a stomach ache then bring him in to your veterinarian immediately for treatment. Dogs are scavengers so he could be fine. I definitely would monitor him closely and seek veterinary care right away to prevent a serious problem if he seems ill. Yes, Turkey is generally well tolerated and tasty for dogs. As long as he doesn't eat too much (like more than his normal serve of kibble), or is known to have an intolerance to Turkey, then he should be fine. I hope that helps and have a good Thanksgiving!

There may be a small risk for Rocket to develop some minor stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). If he is behaving normally otherwise, you can typically manage him at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. If there are no symptoms after 24 hours post ingestion, then you will likely see nothing.
