My dog ate old turkey meat left outside for a week. Is he okay?

Hello. Please do not worry about such a small piece. Dogs seem to be able to tolerate things much better than we can, primarily because their digestive tract is much shorter than ours. Bad stuff passes through usually fast enough that no problems will occur. Botulism is found in the soil & very, very rarely affects dogs. This can cause pancreatitis in a small dog such as your Puppy. If he starts excessive vomiting and has a stomach ache then bring him in to your veterinarian immediately for treatment. Dogs are scavengers so he could be fine. I definitely would monitor him closely and seek veterinary care right away to prevent a serious problem if he seems ill. It's possible the bacteria from the chicken could cause Kipper some GI upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. Removing his regular food and feeding a bland meal of cooked and not-spoiled chicken and rice may help, however if he shows symptoms such as a tender abdomen, bloody vomiting or diarrhea, or diarrhea and vomiting that lasts for more than a day, veterinary care should be sought to treat any infection and illness caused by the spoiled food.

It shouldn't make him sick, if it does withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days.

Your dog will probably be ok, as dogs often eat stinky food they buried a long time before eating it. Watch your dog for vomiting and diarrhea and when this happens, take Russ off food for 12 hrs., then feed him some bland food such as boiled white rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in several small feeds over the day. The next day start replacing small portions of the rice mix with his regular food. Do this for about two days until all the rice and chicken is replaced with his regular food. If he still vomits or has diarrhea, you need to take him to your vet for treatment.

As long as he is not vomiting repetitively or seems very lethargic i would recommend just monitoring him for now, do expect some diarrhea for a few days. if he shows severe symptoms you will need to take him to the vet for treatment, fortunately dog's stomach can usually handle expired meat much better than we do.

Oh that's not good! I'd just watch Zoe for now. This meat could make her sick and give her symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet. I don't think she can handle eating meat that's been sitting outside for a month, that's pretty rotten, but you never know!
