Is rosemary extract in dog food harmful? I've seen articles online.

Rosemary should not be harmful to your dog. However, pre-seasoned and pre-packaged meat like this tends to have a high sodium content that can be detrimental. So I would recommend buying plain ground turkey and cooking it yourself, without adding any salt or spices. This is safer and healthier for Cooper in the long run.

Thank you for posting more information on the essential oil blend! From what I can find, it appears that the essential oil in that blend does not contain any toxic oils for dogs. The fact that the cap was still on the bottle makes it more likely Rosie didn't ingest any of the oil. Hopefully she should be just fine, but if you do notice vomiting, anorexia, nervousness, lethargy, tremors, or any other strange symptoms, have her seen by a vet right away. In the future, make sure that Rosie has no access to any essential oils at all to be safe.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the bag containing the food was air tight and non-pourous it is likely fine. Even if it wasn’t stored with essential oils, 3 months is a long time to store dog food. We worry about mold formation and these foods usually have an expiration date. I’d remove the food from the closet with the essential oils. If it smells like the oils when you open the bag, discard the food. Have a good day

Hello. This is a very difficult question because, in overage amounts, anything can potentially cause cancer. Think coffee, wine & even too much charcoal grilled meats. If there was something overtly dangerous in pet food, owners, veterinarians & the food manufacturers would be screaming to have it removed. There was some talk awhile back about the tin being used in canned foods causing a problem, especially the ones with a pop top, but that has been addressed by applying some coating to the can's interiors. Could something be discovered in the future? Probably. In the meantime, you could supplement your pet's diet with fresh meats & vegetables, but it is very difficult to provide complete nutrition this way. The way I look at it, our pets are living longer & healthier lives & we have a fantastic selection of foods to feed them. Rose essential oil is considered safe for dogs. Make sure it is a high quality oil with no other oils and properly diluted. Monitor for lethargy, sneezing or coughing. Discontinue use and ventilate the room if necessary.

Hi, thabks for using PetCoach! I would avoid cooking oil. Every dog is different on how they handle extra fat. It can cause pancreatitis or GI upset. Hello. It would be almost impossible to say how much onion extract is actually present in the broth. That being said, since it is the last ingredient & the broth ( which I use ) does not have a strong onion smell or taste, it is probably a very small amount. I would, however, not recommend giving this to your pet on a daily basis. Once in a while is fine, but a little onion extract daily MIGHT cause a problem. If you want to supplement Shawn's diet with broth every day, then go the homemade route & leave out any onions. Then you will also have some delicious chicken for treats or salad left over for you.
