Should I give my dog low sodium turkey deli meat as an occasional treat?

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would only give a piece of the deli meat at a time. A slice for you is almost a small meal for for a Chloe. If you do this only once a day, a slice is fine, but if she gets multiple treats a day, they really can add up fast. Take care.

While a very small limited amount of salt/spice free beef jerky is okay as a treat once in a while, feeding more frequently may cause an upset stomach and also may be too many calories and fat. There are a lot healthier treat alternatives out there such as a small amount of green beans, carrots, or even blueberries and apples are tasty treats without all the fat and extra calories. Yes, you can give your pup cooked chicken or meat as an occasional treat. I would boil the chicken or meat as that's the healthiest way to give it to your pup. Too much fat can lead to pancreatitis, so never give your pup pork and only lean cuts of meat :-)

Honey is not harmful for dogs, and I would next expect deli meat prepared with a honey glaze or similar seasoning to be harmful apart from possibly causing some GI upset if your dog isn't used to treats like this.

Yes, that's fine. Most dogs tolerate beef well. If she vomits after eating it, or diarrhea is noted within three days, then she may not tolerate it well. This can happen either due to it being too rich, or a food allergy (not that common). This does have a fair amount of calories though, so I always reccomend you account for these types of treats by feeding a little less of their dog food. This will help prevent obesity, which is a common problem with dogs in the U.S. I hope that helps.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Diarrhea in a young puppy is almost always from intestinal parasites (worms). If the diarrhea does not clear up on it's own within 24-38 hours then he should see a vet for a fecal test. I doubt he would have that much diarrhea from some deli Turkey but if it is, the diarrhea should clear up on it's own.
