Is a red heating lamp safe for my dog? What precautions should I take?

As long as its placed at a distance that prevents them from potentially bumping into it and burning themselves, then yes, you can. However, its often not needed, especially in the summer.,as long as momma dog is right there are they are in a protected area with bedding/blankets/and snuggling together.

It's not safe in that LuLu could lick the salt lamp, and too much salt is toxic to dogs. If you want to use one in a room where she is sleeping, make sure it is placed up high where she cannot have access to it. I hope this helps.

Studies done on these lamps show that they really don't do much more than a normal lamp, so it's unlikely to harm you or your dog. There have also not been any reported problems with these lamps around pets. In-fact, the salt would even be safe if Doobie happened to lick it, but I don't recommend that. I would be cautious with letting Snow lay directly in front of the gas heater as this could lead to serious burns or his fur catching fire if he sleeps too close to the heater. I would make sure that he at least 5 feet from the heater and make sure he cannot get any closer. I have had several patients (dogs and cats) come in with burns from gas heaters. I hope this helps! There is no need for a heating pad. Mama does a great job keeping the temperature just perfect for the babies. There is a danger that if you use a heating pad under the puppies the temperature may be too high and hurt the puppies.

Thank you for your question! My preferred method for warming a hedgehog cage is to use a ceramic heat bulb. They are sold in the reptile section of most pet stores. The reason that I prefer this type of bulb is that they only emit heat, and no light, so Quilliam's day/night cycle will not be affected. Many of the brands will also have a chart on them to assist you in what wattage you need from the bulb, but you will need the distance from the bulb to Quilliam (aka the height of the cage) as well as your desired temperature in order to use the chart (temperature recommendations for hedgehogs are 70-80F depending on what care sheet you are using). I would also recommend monitoring the temperature in his cage once you have added your heat bulb to ensure that it is within the desired range. This can be performed with a digital thermometer - these are also often found in the reptile section of most pet stores. I hope that helps to answer your question, and good luck!

There is no reason why your dog should or should not eat food at similar temperatures to what humans would eat (as long as it will not burn his mouth). Dogs are generaly happy to eat food at room temperature and there is no need to heat it
