My dog had an accident in the car. How to remove the awful odor?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to a scent in the environment that has the odor. Also, it is quite common for puppies and dogs in general that they roll on something that may have a scent such as urine in the grass from another dog for example. I would recommend that you go outside with your puppy to see where he is getting that scent. Best of luck!

If you use a solution of white vinegar, baking soda and water and soak the e-collar in the solution for a few hours, it should take the smell away. Use even portions of white vinegar and water and add in a few table spoons of baking soda. I hope this helps! Hello, and thanks for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Most groomers will express (empty) the anal glands; I wonder if that's the odor your smell. I recommend washing around Wynter's anus gently with mild soapy water and see if that resolves the odor. If it continues, you may need to bring Wynter in to the vet to get checked out, as a persistent odor is often a sign of infection (of the skin, ears, lip fold, etc). Hope this helps!

You can try using a white vinegar and warm water mixture to see if that helps. Mix together 1/2 cup of white vinegar with a gallon of water water, and put a few drops of the mixture on the area to make sure it doesn't affect the finish of the wood floors. If it doesn't, you can use a spray bottle to spray this mixture on the area, and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. Then use a clean and dry mop to soak up the mixture, rinse the area again with warm water, and then use a sponge mop to mop up the water. You may have to repeat this a few times to get the smell out. Some people recommend putting baking soda on the area and letting it sit for a couple of hours after removing the white vinegar and warm water mixture. You would wipe away the baking soda with water and a clean cloth after this time. Finally, you can get a product called Nature's Miracle. It's an enzymatic cleaner that breaks down the urine, but test is in a corner first to make sure it doesn't affect the floor or it's finish. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Anal gland excretions do smell a bit fishy- that is normal. It can take a few hours for the smell to eventually dissipate, however, it you take a little mild baby shampoo or mild soap on a moist towel and rub his behind gently with it after expressions, this can greatly reduce the smell immediately afterwards. Any of these could contribute to what you are smelling.
