My dog's plastic cone has poop on it. How do I get the bad smell out?

Unfortunately you cannot get rid of them completely, but there are a few things you can try. You can use a metal water and food bowl instead of plastic. Some people think filtered water can help. I find that a tear stain wipe, such as the Angel Eyes brand, helps remove them. I'd also have Moki seen by a vet for the smell, that may mean an infection.

The most important aspect of therapy for an anal sac abscess is systemic antibiotics prescribed by a veterinarian, combined with thorough flushing of it. It is very important to keep Nini from licking at it as that will delay healing. You could consider bathing him which will make the lump of feces more manageable when is wet. Often you can remove the dried feces with a comb or soft brush. Try to get under any fur if there is any and loosen it with the comb or do some circular brushing to loosen it. Also scrubbing the area will a soft brush during a bath and using a lot of warm water usually will take care of it as well. Once Koga is clean if you put a thin film of Vaseline on his fur below and around the anus and on the underneath of the tail it will keep the diarrhea from sticking to his skin or fur. Unfortunately this is a common problem with many dogs. Many dogs enjoy a good roll in something very stinky. Using a shampoo meant for oily skin may be helpful. In extreme cases a dish detergent such as Dawn dish soap could be used but keep in mind that shampoos or soaps like this can strip topical flea medications from your dog's coat. Teaching your dog a good "Leave it" command may help with these episodes in the future. Otherwise avoidance is the best management plan. If the poop is just stuck to the fur I would recommend either soaking it to get it off or if you have a dog clipper (like a groomer uses, not scissors) and clip it off.
