Why does my dog still smell bad a day after professional grooming?

Any of these could contribute to what you are smelling. I would recommend they have a thorough physical with a veterinarian to determine if there is an underlying issue contributing to the odor, and get any suggestions on a shampoo that may help. Hi there. Dogs don't sweat through their skin, only their paw pads - so if Mollie has a persistent odor, this is likely due to some other problem such as a bacterial or fungal skin infection, impacted anal glands, an ear infection, or some other issue. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam to determine what is causing the odor. He/she should be able to prescribe a medicated shampoo or other treatment for the underlying problem, depending on what is found.

Can you isolate where the smell is coming from? If it is coming and going every 2 months, I would wonder if she is having problems with her anal glands. If the smell appears to be coming from her skin, it is possible that it is from the bacteria or yeast on her skin. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to see any detail in the picture. However, it does look like there is an infectious process going on. This may be in the skin per se or possibly in the anal sac region. I would recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Anal gland excretions do smell a bit fishy- that is normal. It can take a few hours for the smell to eventually dissipate, however, it you take a little mild baby shampoo or mild soap on a moist towel and rub his behind gently with it after expressions, this can greatly reduce the smell immediately afterwards. Boozo is adorable. I am not sure if it was done or not but were the anal glands actually expressed? If it is an anal gland infection then they should be expressed and potentially flushed out and infused with antibiotics. If this was not done I would also consider getting a stool sample to make sure the Boozo does not have any intestinal parasites or a bacterial overgrowth. Also, it is quite common for puppies and dogs in general that they roll on something that may have a scent such as urine in the grass from another dog for example. I would recommend that you go outside with your puppy to see where he is getting that scent. Best of luck!
