My puppy won't sit still to clean his eye discharge. What to do?

I recommend cleaning the eye discharge with a warm cloth to remove it all from around the eye and the fur below. They I would apply a thin film of Vaseline on the fur below the eye to keep the fur from irritating the eye and it will prevent the discharge from sticking to the fur so you won't have to clean it so often. If you just need to remove the eye discharge, you can put warm water on a cotton ball and gently wipe the inside corner of the eye. If the discharge quickly returns or you notice discharge in the eye as well, you can use any sterile saline eye wash made for humans. If the discharge is not resolving after a couple of day or is getting worse at any point, then I would have your veterinarian recheck the eye and determine if any medication is needed to resolve the problem. I recommend you use an E-collar so he doesn't rub the eye and cause a scratch on the surface of the eye. Do not put anything in the eye until you see your Vet. Ointments or drops for the eye are made specifically to be safe for use in the eye. Ointments for the skin are not safe to be put in the eye. I wish you the best and Nico a speedy recovery!

Just to clarify - do you mean he has a little bit of sticky eye discharge? - if its clear or a little white or brown this can be normal as long as his eyes are not red or squinted shut when they should be open. A brief wipe away every day is all that is needed - use a soft tissue or damp washcloth (flannel). I also just want to check - did auto correct change "Boiled" chicken to spoiled? as I really don't think you should feed him spoiled meat! same as in humans, it can make him sick. Veggies like carrots and sweet potato are fine but should make up no more than a quarter of his meal.

It could be that Hershey has a severe eye infection or could have suffered trauma to the eye. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency and should never be treated at home. This is not a cure, so if the discharge persists, worsens, or Iker shows any signs of pain or discomfort in his eyes, redness or conjunctival swelling, please see your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Iker may have mild allergies, but he may also be developing conjunctivitis so do not let it go on too long without following up with your veterinarian. Hello. Thank you for using PetCoach. It sounds like Nami has conjunctivitis. I suggest you use this product to help flush the eye out a couple times a day.
