What can I use to clean my dog's eye boogers safely at home?

Poor Boomer! It sounds like he may have an eye infection. You can flush his eyes with a sterile saline solution, but he ultimately has to see a vet for treatment. Leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into the vet first thing Monday to have his eyes examined and treated. Best of luck!

I recommend to have Boogie examined to make sure this change is not related to an infection or other pathology. Otherwise use a moistened cottonball to clean the tears. There are also pet specific eye wipes like Angel Eyes. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I recommend you use an E-collar so he doesn't rub the eye and cause a scratch on the surface of the eye. Do not put anything in the eye until you see your Vet. Ointments or drops for the eye are made specifically to be safe for use in the eye. Ointments for the skin are not safe to be put in the eye. I wish you the best and Nico a speedy recovery!

If it is just a saline eye wash than you can use it to clean her eyes. If she is having problems with her eyes than it would be a good idea to have a vet examine her to determine the cause. She may need medications to treat.

You can try applying some drops to her eyes 3-4 times a day to see if this resolves her clinical signs. Yellow discharge can be a sign of infection, however, which requires eye medications prescribed by your veterinarian. They will first want to perform a full ocular exam to look for evidence of corneal scratches or ulcers, as this would alter treatment. Hello. Other than cleaning the discharge as it appears each day with a little warm water, you can flush the eyes with artificial tears to remove any allergens that may be affecting the cornea. This is not a cure, so if the discharge persists, worsens, or Iker shows any signs of pain or discomfort in his eyes, redness or conjunctival swelling, please see your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Iker may have mild allergies, but he may also be developing conjunctivitis so do not let it go on too long without following up with your veterinarian.
