My puppy has white eye discharge and is tired. Is this normal?

This is very concerning as, while her vaccinations were done on time, she is not fully protected against distemper and parvo yet. Purulent discharge from her nose and eyes are concerning as they could , of course be a simple respiratory infection, but also a sign of canine distemper. Please take your puppy to a veterinarian for an exam and some diagnostics.

Hello. If the eyes are watery sometimes with just a clear discharge, this is ok. This can be normal. If the eyes are red, or the discharge is yellow or cream or green then there is likely an infection that needs medications. Puppies sometimes like to sleep and not play, so if Popey is normal most of the day and sometimes not as playful then I would not worry, however if he is continually more lethargic he could have a virus, and you should get him checked by a vet. This white covering you are seeing is likely Tyson's third eyelid, which is a normal part of a dog's anatomy but should only come out when his eyes are closed such as when he is sleeping. When you see it out while his eye is open, that is a sign of illness such as an eye infection or foreign body in the eye. Clearly his eye is bothering him if he is rubbing at it, and you need to put an Ecollar on him to keep him from doing that because he could make the problem worse. I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. Next step is get him into a vet asap. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. This can be purchased in most grocery or drug stores near the contact lens supplies. Dark yellow urine is very normal and a sign that the kidneys are functioning well. If you think Luffy isn't drinking enough you can always add water to the food, but dark, concerntrated urine is quite normal.

Poor Finn! Eye discharge is most often caused by an eye infection or a corneal injury such as a scratch or ulcer. Diarrhea in a puppy this age is often caused by intestinal parasites, an upset stomach due to something he ate, or an infection of some kind. I would recommend taking Finn to the vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a fecal exam to check for parasites or other problems, and will also examine his eyes to determine what is causing the discharge. The vet will prescribe appropriate medication to treat these issues depending on what is found.

Just to clarify - do you mean he has a little bit of sticky eye discharge? - if its clear or a little white or brown this can be normal as long as his eyes are not red or squinted shut when they should be open. A brief wipe away every day is all that is needed - use a soft tissue or damp washcloth (flannel). I also just want to check - did auto correct change "Boiled" chicken to spoiled? as I really don't think you should feed him spoiled meat! same as in humans, it can make him sick. Veggies like carrots and sweet potato are fine but should make up no more than a quarter of his meal.
