My 2-month-old puppy is weak and won't eat. What should I do?

My 2 month old puppy won't eat and he's kinda weak. Why is that so?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry to hear that Tootsie is not feeling well. At 2 months of age, this has me worried that he may be battling an infection such as Parvo virus. He may also be dehydrated if he is weak and is likely in need of fluid therapy for rehydration. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have him parvo tested and have his blood tested to see if there are any other abnormalities. Subcutaneous fluids would certainly help him feel better and he may be so dehydrated the IV fluids may be the best option for him. It is difficult to say without examining him to see how severe he is. I hope this helps! Why is my 2-month puppy not eating, vomiting, and sleeping a lot?

I am so sorry to hear that Coco is sick. At 8 weeks old my biggest concerns would be parvovirus, intestinal parasites, and something called intussusception. This is where the intestine telescopes on itself and causes a functional obstruction. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment or seek a second opinion. An 8 week old puppy will become dehydrated and decompensate quickly without supportive care. IV fluids, anti nausea medications and anti diarrhea meds would be a good plan while the diagnostics are Being run to identify the problem such as fecal Exams, parvo test, CBC, And probably repeat x-rays. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Brownie. Sounds like she needs to evaluated by your veterinarian due to her being so weak as you describe. Many things are possible- intestinal worms causing anemia or blood loss, not enough food, not feeding frequently enough, infections from viruses/bacteria, dietary problems, etc. Your vet can examine her and then recommend a fecal exam, other fecal tests, blood tests, and possibly x-rays to determine why she is so weak. They can then advise the course of treatment that is appropriate. Good luck with Brownie.

It is very difficult to diagnose him over the internet. If he is weak, he may need IV fluids and medications to make him feel better. Once a vet performs an exam, they will be able to guide you to the next steps in diagnosing and treating his problems. He may have a respiratory infection that requires an oral antibiotic for treatment. I am sorry Omaze isn’t feeling well. Your description that isnhe weak has me concerned that he may be anemic. If he hasn’t been dewormed yet I would highly recommend a broad spectrum deworming. My 4-month-old puppy is weak and won't eat or drink. What to do?

I'm so sorry. It sounds like Yasmin is very sick. If it is at all possible, get him in to a veterinarian as soon as you can. He is probably dehydrated and in need of some IV fluids. His blood sugar also may be dangerously low. If you are absolutely unable to get him to a vet, you can see if he will eat or drink if you hold it up for him. Please do not force water or food into his mouth, especially if he's extremely weak or not responding, as this increases the chances of him aspirating (inhaling the food or water into his lungs and developing pneumonia). You can also try rubbing a little honey or corn syrup on his gums--if his blood sugar is low this may temporarily help. However, ultimately the underlying cause will have to be treated.
