My puppy won't eat and is too weak to walk. Is this an emergency?

A puppy that isn't eating is cause for concern even if you aren't seeing him show any other signs of illness. 2 days is enough time to be concerned if he isn't eating/drinking normally. At 3 months old he is still at risk of dehydration and hypoglycemia if he isn't taking in enough water and food. I hope Jack feels better soon.

At 2 months of age, this has me worried that he may be battling an infection such as Parvo virus. He may also be dehydrated if he is weak and is likely in need of fluid therapy for rehydration. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have him parvo tested and have his blood tested to see if there are any other abnormalities. Subcutaneous fluids would certainly help him feel better and he may be so dehydrated the IV fluids may be the best option for him. It is difficult to say without examining him to see how severe he is. I hope this helps! He may have a respiratory infection that requires an oral antibiotic for treatment. The sooner you get him seen and treated the better so that the infection has less of a chance to spread through the rest of the litter. I hope this helps! Many things could be going on such as pain, intestinal worms, fever from many sources - infection, inflammation, etc. Kittens commonly develop upper respiratory infections due to viruses but can then develop secondary bacterial infections. It's best to take him to your veterinarian right away so they can perform a physical exam including his vitals to see if he has a fever. Once they perform that, they can advise fecal tests, blood tests, or x-rays to help them determine what is causing him problems. I hope Jack gets well soon.

Many things are possible- intestinal worms causing anemia or blood loss, not enough food, not feeding frequently enough, infections from viruses/bacteria, dietary problems, etc. Your vet can examine her and then recommend a fecal exam, other fecal tests, blood tests, and possibly x-rays to determine why she is so weak. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Joplin is very very sick. She might have a condition called "Parvovirus" which is a very serious virus that affects puppies, and is more likely if Joplin is unvaccinated. The other possible causes in a puppy include an obstruction in her gut (a blockage from a foreign object (ex. ball) that she ate, or an intussusception (the intestines telescoping in on each other). Also, depending on her age, pyometra is possible along with many other conditions. With what you are describing, I am very concerned that she could die without aggressive care. I strongly recommend you get Joplin to a vet right away, and if your vet is closed go to your closest emergency clinic. They will recommend a test of her poop, as well as possible bloodwork and x-rays, and will likely want to keep her in hospital on IV fluids and medications.
