My puppy is vomiting and won't eat. What wet food is best for him?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Dobby hasn't eaten in 2 days he needs to go back to the veterinarian ASAP. He may have a more serious infection such as parvovirus or could have a GI obstruction. At his age he needs immediate intervention to recover. Puppies this young can become hypoglycemic and dehydrated very quickly if not eating. Please take Dobby to a vet asap for further evaluation.

Once Orioz has stopped vomiting, gently start syringe feeding a well balance canned puppy food (purina proplan puppy, royal canin, Hills, etc). Syringe small amounts several times per day. Add water to the canned food to make it more liquidy so it can pass through the syringe. Skip a feeding if he vomits. Continue syringe feeding until he starts to eat on his own. This can take several days. I hope this helps and I wish Orioz a speedy recovery!

Hello. Better than the Cerelac, you want to use a syringable product like Hill's a/d or Purina Critical Care. If your vet does not carry these, then you can purchase pureed meat baby foods as long as there is no onion or garlic. If you cannot get this, then take any canned dog or puppy food & puree it at home in a blender adding just enough water that you can push the food through a syringe without the food blocking things up. Until your puppy can eat on its own, you can give 1 cc (ml ) every hour. This is just a tiny amount of food that hopefully Goofy will not throw up. You should also syringe a couple of ccs (mls) of water every hour, too. If any of these small amounts still cause the puppy to vomit, he will probably need to be hospitalized for intravenous fluids & continuing medications to control the nausea & vomiting. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If a medical issue has been ruled out, you can try highly palatable foods such as lean meats mixed with rice. Otherwise, there are certain brands in the market that are highly palatable such as Purina Pro Plan shredded blends. You can try adding chicken broth to his food. You can try those things but if nothing seems to work, he should be re-evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure that there is not a medical issue going on with him. Good luck and have a great day!

Poor Blue! Small breed young puppies are delicate and they are extremely prone to low blood sugar if they don’t eat well. This condition can be fatal. There are many causes for vomiting including worms, change in diet, bacteria over growth and Parvo. I recommend to have Blue seen today by his veterinarian. It’s very important to get these little puppies eating and not vomiting to avoid low blood sugar. The doctor will need to run some tests to determine the cause. Offer him boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice. This is a bland diet which can help to settle his stomach. Smaller, more frequent meals are better than two large ones. Warm the food slightly to stimulate Dobby's appetite. You can mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food or mix in some warm puppy milk replacer as well. You can buy Esbilac or Pet Lac at most pet stores.

I recommend taking a fresh stool sample to the vet to check for parasites and parvovirus. I would not recommend apple juice but Pedialyte (not grape) is ok for fluids. He can have canned puppy food too as long as he has teeth. You can mix the formula with the canned food but he shouldn't need it at his age. Good luck and kisses to Oreo!
