My puppy has gastroenteritis, vomiting, and won't eat again.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 13 days old

We took our German Shepherd mix 2 month old puppy to the vet.The vet said he has gastroenteritis and gave a few medicines which we still give him.We gave him ors too so he doesn't dehydrate.He felt better the next day and had a meal but the day after he started vomiting and refusing to eat again.It has been 2 days since he stopped eating.He vomits if we feed him.We didn't feed him right after his first vomit but waited for few hours before feeding.He also searchea for cold places to take rest.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Dobby hasn't eaten in 2 days he needs to go back to the veterinarian ASAP. He may have a more serious infection such as parvovirus or could have a GI obstruction. At his age he needs immediate intervention to recover. Puppies this young can become hypoglycemic and dehydrated very quickly if not eating. Please take Dobby to a vet asap for further evaluation.

I am sorry to hear that Dobby isn’t feeling well. This is highly concerning for an intestinal obstruction. I would encourage you to have him seen by a veterinarian immediately. An x-Ray, blood work, and possibly a barium series may be needed. If there is an obstruction then surgery will be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Since it's been 48 hours, I would recommend a vet visit at this point. He may just have some inflammation in his gut and need some supportive care (anti-nausea medication and fluids under his skin) or could have something more serious going on like parvo virus. If he's so tired that he's not able to get up and walk around, I'd recommend going to an emergency clinic tonight, otherwise it should be ok to wait until the morning. Good luck!

Hi. I am glad that dobby is still feeling and acting ok. If everything else is OK I would monitor tonight, and also offer some boiled rice and hamburger as a bland food, if it progresses and continues another 24 hours, I would get him checked out then. Good luck

Otherwise, here are my favorite foods for sick animals that aren't eating well. If it is available to you Hills Science diet A/d formula or Royal Canin R/S are critical care formulas that are baby food consistency and very calorie rich for sick animals. They can be thinned with a bit of water and syringe fed if needed. If these are not available, any high quality wet puppy food can be blended with a bit of water to make a slurry if needed. Dog with gastroenteritis, vomiting bile, not eating. When to call vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If it is more than a couple of hours after taking her medication before she vomited, Bailey probably got most of her dose. However if she continues to vomit, or isn't eating at all after 48 hours she may need some fluid therapy. I would recommend contacting her vet tomorrow if she still isn't eating. If she vomits anymore tonight or seems to feel worse then she may need to go to an emergency clinic tonight.

My 4-month-old puppy is sick, not eating, vomiting, diarrhea

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that Gus is not feeling well. Vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy are quite concerning in any dog, especially puppies because of the diseases they can get such as parvovirus. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check for this disease as well as checking for other possibilities such as intestinal worms or other infections. The sooner these diseases are diagnosed the better the outcome tends to be. At the very least, Gus can be started on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications and his hydration status can be checked. My 9-week-old puppy won't eat and keeps throwing up. Is it serious?

This could be a number of things - parasites, a bacterial or viral GI infection, or even an intestinal blockage. At 2.5 months of age, Gus is especially at risk for parvovirus, a serious GI infection. We always worry about fluid loss in young puppies, so I would recommend getting him to a vet ASAP, to diagnose the cause of the vomiting, and start appropriate therapy.

I think if she is sleepy a lot and that is abnormal and it has been 2 days that she should see a Veterinarian for a physical exam. Causes of not eating are:intestinal parasites, foreign body ingestion, viral infections, toxin ingestion or other more regional diseases. I wouldn't want her to go much longer without eating. My puppy is still sick and won't eat after vet visit, what's wrong?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Hercules. Sounds like you need to have him evaluated again by your vet. Just wondering if any blood work was done and if not I would advise getting some done to evaluate his overall health and internal organ function. Possibilities include intestinal parasites (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, coccidia, etc), dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs are not supposed to eat), dietary/nutritional problem, infection/inflammation, foreign body ingestion, toxin exposure, other gastrointestinal diseases, disease in organs outside of the gastrointestinal tract (pancreatitis, kidney/liver disease, etc), among many other causes. The fact that he won't eat is significant since he will get weak and possibly dehydrated also if he is not drinking fluids. Your vet can reevaluate him and see if anything has changed on physical exam and then propose other tests if needed. Good luck with Hercules. I hope he feels better soon.

My Dachshund isn't eating well and keeps throwing up food or water?

Not eating and vomiting can be due to a very upset stomach/gastritis, pancreatitis, severe diabetic crisis, blockages of the gut, organ disease, etc. It is important to stop the vomiting and rule out surgical causes and organ failure causes.
