Why is my puppy throwing up after deworming and twitching in sleep?

This is completely normal. I would recommend bringing in a fecal sample in to the veterinarian so that the most appropriate deworming medication can be prescribed. It can be normal to twitch in their sleep. Puppies and dogs dream, and she may be reacting to the dreams. My own dog sometimes barks in her sleep. As for the pot belly, she may have intestinal worms which is common in puppies. That would cause a pot belly. Have her seen by the vet to get a deworming treatment. Her stool sounds ok. Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The jerking and moving on their sleep is perfectly normal in most cases so I would not worry about that. There are several dewormers available in the market. I personally prefer Drontal plus. Good luck!

Hi,t hanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dewowmers have the potential to cause an upset stomach such as vomit, diarrhea and decreased appetite. Though I am worried something else is going on since you lost a puppy recently. I worry most about parvo virus in puppies this age, especially if they are yet to be vaccinated. I would have this puppy seen today by your Vet and tested for parvo virus as it is VERY contagious and if it is the cause it will likely affect the entire litter. If it isn't parvo the Vet can at least get this puppy feeling better and prevent dehydration. Good luck!

Puppies depending on their age can sleep quite a bit and not be very playful if for example less than 2 months of age. If your pup is older and you think may be sick due to other symptoms, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, your pup may be fine. Poor pups. While a heavy parasite load can cause severe GI upset, and anemia which can cause a pup to become extremely lethargic, have bloody diarrhea, etc, I would also want to rule out underlying illnesses as a possibility. It would be best to bring them to a vet ASAP especially if they are lethargic or unable to keep any food or water down as puppies can quickly become very dehydrated. They may also need supportive care such as an IV or injected medications if they are very ill from the parasites or other causes. You can try continuing to offer water, or rubbing a little honey on their gums for energy until you can get to the vet, however due to the severity of symptoms it would be best to seek emergency care.

I agree with your concerns. This is not normal for a puppy, and I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. Small puppies can have problems regulating their blood glucose levels and that may cause the trembling and nausea. Try to give her a snack every 3-4 hours if possible. Also, deworming and vaccinations are important at this age as well. Your veterinarian will complete a good physical examination on her and let you know if they have any other concerns.
