Is my puppy's sleep jerking normal? What dewormer should I use?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not likely the result of the dewormer. Puppies depending on their age can sleep quite a bit and not be very playful if for example less than 2 months of age. If your pup is older and you think may be sick due to other symptoms, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, your pup may be fine. Having a vomit or two after deworming can be normal, however if it continues or if Kain is acting weak or tired then I would get him to a vet right away. Puppies often twitch in their sleep, and they are dreaming. You can try waking him up during this twitching, if it stops right away it was just dreaming, if it continues it is a seizure or twitching that needs to be seen by a vet right away. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Sometimes during the deep phase of sleep, animals can twitch or have muscle twitching. This is completely normal. I would recommend bringing in a fecal sample in to the veterinarian so that the most appropriate deworming medication can be prescribed. The dose of dewormer is weight dependent so if the same drug was used it is likely the new dog weighs more or they used a different dewormer. A lot of vets use the heart worm prevention as a dewormer because it also takes care of intestinal parasites. It is really Vet preference. I hope this helps!

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Parasite eggs are microscopic so I'm wondering if what you're seeing in the stool is actually eggs. It could be adult roundworms or even tapeworm eggs. It is not uncommon to see the adult roundworms as they are killed by the deworming process. If it is tapeworm eggs, you may need to end up treating for fleas (as this is how tapeworms are spread). The Dolpac should help treat for tapeworms and the praziquantel should be effective for giardia and roundworms. It is possible that you may end up needed to retreat but I suspect what you are seeing may be normal for the deworming process. Definitely take a fecal sample back to your veterinarian in about 3 weeks to ensure the infection is cleared. Also the prevent reinfection make sure to clean up your dogs feces from the yard. If at any time Echo seems to be acting ill or has diarrhea I would take her back to your veterinarian.

Eight week old puppies will sleep a lot. But when awake, he should be active, alert, and hungry. Many times it takes multiple deworming treatments several weeks apart to clear an infestation, I would recommend having a fecal sample checked by the veterinarian. Be sure that he is getting his vaccinations, the vet will recommend a series of vaccines every 3-4 weeks until 16-18 weeks old. Until he is fully vaccinated he may still be very susceptible to parvo or distemper. If he is very lethargic, vomiting or diarrhea he needs to see a vet right away. At 8 weeks old I recommend feeding 3 times daily. He should be on a high quality large breed dog food (some great brands are Science Diet, Royal Canin, Eukanuba or ProPlan). At this point you can base what you feed him according to the directions on the package. Be careful when playing that you don't tire him out too much. Be sure he stops for breaks and snacks. Until fully vaccinated I would not take him outside much and avoid public parks, dog parks or petstores with Twix. I hope this helps. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In the US we do not use Albendazole in dogs or cats. If Oscar only weighs 5.5 lbs and if he was given 5mls that is 200mg of albendazole and at that dose it has been reported to cause mental dullness and decreased appetite in cats. It can also affect white and red blood cells. I don't have much information about overdoses in dogs. Stop giving him the medication. The dose of ivermectin should be ok. If he gets worse or doesn't improve he should be taken to an emergency hospital. Good luck!
