My puppy swallowed a plastic tag. Should I monitor or go to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 months and 15 days old | 19 lbs

My 10 month old 18lb puppy just found the end of a plastic tag (the things to attach tags to toys, socks etc) and seems to have swallowed it before we got it from her. Should we just monitor her for signs of stomach discomfort or do we need to bring her to a vet?

Since those pieces are small, it is safe to monitor for any GI signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, lethargy or a decreased appetite. There is a good change that can pass through and you will never notice a problem over the next 24-48 hours!
