My puppy had parvo, now sick again. What's wrong and will he survive?

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Bruno is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Bruno evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on anti-diarrhea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

Hello, sorry to hear about Brutus. His chances really depend on what is going on with him. If he has parvovirus or other infectious diseases such as distemper then this could perhaps carry a poor prognosis for him. He should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to determine the cause of his diarrhea and weakness. He may need to be hospitalize to receive fluids and medications through his veins. In dogs infected with parvo virus, there can be long term health effects from the infection such as chronic gastrointestinal disease. I would recommend going on a sensitive stomach formula and adding in a probiotic to see if this helps. As always, check the stool for intestinal parasites to make sure a parasite is not the cause. I am so sorry to hear about Darcy! This type of illness is so frustrating and I see it occasionally in my emergency practice. It could still be parvo, although false negatives are rare. It could be a toxin, anaphylactoid reaction, a parasite, HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), pancreatitis, a foreign body obstruction, or something else. The main thing with all of these is supportive care, so the iv fluids and are crucial. Certainly you are entitled (and even encouraged) to seek out a specialty center for a second opinion if Darcy is safe to transfer. I am so sorry to hear that Sweety isn’t feeling well. Certainly bacterial infectionor a parasitic infection could be possible. However I would most concerned about a problem called intussusception which is a serious problem where the intestines telescope on themselves and cause an obstruction. This can happen after a parvovirus infection. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Hello. It does sometimes take time for the gut to heal after a bad bout of Parvo, & 11 days of treatment says to me this was a tough one. Continue to fed Pluto, but you might want to switch to an intestinal diet or one made for sensitive stomachs & skin. I would try feeding pretty small amounts frequently, rather than 2-3 larger meals a day. Even a tablespoon or two every hour or so might be tolerated better. If your Pluto was not under the care of a vet for this, I would also be concerned about concurrent intestinal parasites, so a good deworming may be necessary.
