Puppy got shots. Is it safe to go outside? Flea & tick prevention?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is playing with healthy vaccinated dogs and is current on her puppy shots then she is unlikely to get parvo. Parvo is transmitted fecal-oral or from fomites (touching objects that have the virus on it). Be sure that Coco gets her DHPP every 3-4 weeks until she gets 2 past 12 weeks. If she has lapsed between vaccines then there is risk. As for tick control she is old enough for Nexgard which is a monthly oral chewable as well as Frontline which is topical. Be sure to start heartworm prevention as well. I wish you the best!

Sage is protected enough that she can start going outside to pee. I would wait to have her mix with other dogs until two weeks after her last set of vaccinations so she'll be fully protected. Yes you should start her right away on heartworm and flea/tick medication. Ask what they recommend for your area when you get her last vaccinations as there are many good products. It is okay to bring her outside inside a carrier, but she is not yet ready to interact with other dogs or walk around in places where other dogs have been. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that socialization is important at this age. There is a fine line between preventing disease and socialization. It is fine for Coco to play with healthy fully vaccinated adult dogs and puppies. No dog parks. She can be walked on side walks. I would always pick up the stool if you think that Coco may want to start eating stool. Teach her to "leave it" early on. Leash walk until you are sure she is trained and isn't going to eat her stool. Stool eating is behavioral and it is hard to go back and teach them not too. Much easier to never allow them to start. There is a fine line between socialization, house training and exposing the puppy to infectious disease. Most of the worrisome disease are from direct dog to dog contact from sneezing/coughing or fecal-oral. I think your yard is fine. I do not recommend contact with other puppies or dogs are not vaccinated. Keep her up to date on her DHPP by getting it every 3-4 weeks until she receives 2 past 12 weeks of age. I wish you the best!
