Is it safe for my 8-week puppy to play with a vaccinated adult dog?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that socialization is important at this age. There is a fine line between preventing disease and socialization. It is fine for Coco to play with healthy fully vaccinated adult dogs and puppies. No dog parks. She can be walked on side walks. I would always pick up the stool if you think that Coco may want to start eating stool. Teach her to "leave it" early on. Leash walk until you are sure she is trained and isn't going to eat her stool. Stool eating is behavioral and it is hard to go back and teach them not too. Much easier to never allow them to start. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is definitely OK for them to interact, and it will actually help socialize your younger puppy. Your younger dog will learn their boundaries and what behaviors are acceptable and not. Before bringing your young puppy out to play in public with any other dogs, be sure that he/she is fully vaccinated (finished with his/her puppy vaccine series). This will give them the best chance at fighting off any potential infections in the environment. I hope this is helpful!

Yes, it's fine to walk your puppy around your neighborhood, and to let him be around healthy, vaccinated dogs. Just avoid high-risk areas where lots of strange dogs tend to be, like dog parks and pet stores, until he's finished with his vaccination series :)

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a fine line between being too over protective and not socializing the puppy enough. I think walks on side walks and NON dog parks are fine. I think playing with healthy (not recently sick or currently sick) and 100% vaccinated animals is also fine. I do not recommend boarding, doggie daycare or dog parks until 2 weeks after the puppy's final vaccinations. So yes I think it absolutely fine for your friend to visit. Humans can carry viruses. If it has been 2 months since her previous dog died of parvo it is likely safe. She should leave her shoes outside and have clean clothes on. Have her wash her hands before playing with your puppy. If she recently, with in 2 months, had a parvo infected dog that is still alive in her house I would not have her visit. Good luck!

As long as Dallas is healthy, it should be fine for Phoenix and Dallas to interact with supervision. Try to avoid or limit any time the puppy spends outside, and do not go to dog parks or pet stores with him until he has received several sets of vaccines. Phoenix is a cutie! Yes - as long as his most recent booster was given at four months of age or older, he should be considered fully vaccinated. He will need a rabies vaccine from your veterinarian when you get a chance to have this done, but in the meantime it should be fine for him to be around other dogs. Congrats on your new puppy! :)
