Why is my puppy shivering and unable to stand after hitting her head?

She’s adorable! Shivering can be a sign of discomfort. She will probably be sore and bruised from the fall so I’m not overly concerned about that. You may want to wake her to make sure she’s acting normal, and I would give her something to eat to make sure she’s able to eat normally. Head trauma is always a cause for concern. Since this happened yesterday, there should have been some improvement with your pup if he suffered an injury such as a mild concussion. Sleeping a lot is not so much of a concern since young puppies normally sleep most of the day, but if you also see signs such as unresponsiveness, a head tilt, circling while walking, unequal pupil size, twitching of the eyes, ataxia (wobbly gait) or [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) then he should be [seen by a veterinarian immediately](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-handle-a-pet-emergency/). If there is a bump, it may be a seroma (blood filled sac). This can treated by your veterinarian by either draining the area or trying a veterinary anti-inflammatory medication. If the signs persist more than 12 hours a check up would be needed both to have her checked and give appropriate treatment. Pain relief meds may be necessary. In the meantime keep her quiet and monitor her for any other sign other than what you described (which are probably to due to mild discomfort and not specific of anything concerning).

Your puppy is plenty old enough to get started on her vaccinations, so taking her to the vet shouldn't be a problem. If she's acting fine and the bump is improving, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. She may have just banged herself hard enough to get a swelling. If she isn't acting like herself, then I recommend getting her to see the vet right away.

Vomiting after an head trauma might be concerning. I recommend to bring her to the vet for a physical and neurological examinations to exclude brain damages (i.e. concussion). Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. I hope my answer was helpful.

Please have Leilani seen by a vet right away. It sounds like she may be dealing with a neurologic problem, and she is likely suffering. It is difficult to give a prognosis without further diagnostics, as she could also be dealing with weakness from systemic diseases, low blood sugar, trauma, or toxin ingestion. A vet visit is needed immediately to determine the cause of his signs and guide treatment, as the prognosis could worsen drastically without treatment.
