My puppy hit his head, has a bump, and is sleeping a lot. Serious?

Your puppy is plenty old enough to get started on her vaccinations, so taking her to the vet shouldn't be a problem. If she's acting fine and the bump is improving, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. She may have just banged herself hard enough to get a swelling. If she isn't acting like herself, then I recommend getting her to see the vet right away.

The bump is probably swollen tissue, as he was bitten by another dog there is very high chances of him developing a bad infection from the bite wound, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get the wound checked and he will need a course of antibiotics in order to get better.

Hello, if Bubby has an open fontanel on his skull (brain skull not completely formed), then this can cause pets to be confused. He could have hit his head hard enough to have a concussion as well. If he does not start to be more alert within the next 30 minutes, or if he develops additional signs such as seizure and trembling, disorientation, or is not responding then he should be seen immediately by a veterinarian. Keep him head upright without putting him on his back. Hope he feels better soon.

First, great pictures and highlighting of the lump! This appears to be a fluid-filled lump. Usually puppies get these when they bang their head on something and then fluid accumulated under the skin. However, I do worry about congenital defects that could cause accumulation of CNS fluid under the skin. If Thor is otherwise acting and looking normal, then either way, it's not an emergency. If he is acting weird, then best to have a veterinarian check him out. If it was just a bump, then the swelling will start going down within a couple of days. If it continues to grow, then it would be concerning enough to make an appointment with a vet. An easy way to detect growth or shrinking is to draw around the edge to the swelling with a magic marker. It will look silly, but it's really easy to tell if the border of the swelling has moved. That's quite a lump! If it is growing rapidly or is painful, then Smoke should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER as soon as you can get him in. The same can be said if he is lethargic or unresponsive. If he is behaving normally and the lump is not bothering him, you can wait until tomorrow morning to have him seen by your vet.

When animals are sleepy after a hit on the head, which is the my biggest concern for what you are describing, it could be that they have a condition called 'cerebral edema'. Your vet will check for this by assessing your puppies mentation, pupil size and shape and responsiveness, blood pressure, heart rate, and the rest of his physical exam. This, if present, is very serious and sometimes can be fixed and sometimes cannot be fixed. Your vet, if they feel that cerebral edema is present, will give a drug called Mannitol, or will give a drug called 'Hypertonic Saline', to try to decrease this pressure. I am glad you brought Bentley to the vet, that is the best place for him. If you are concerned about Bentley then I recommend you call the clinic and get an update on Bentley, as we cannot know his prognosis without knowing exactly what is happening. My concern would be that the other dog may have bitten Hope on the head. Keep an eye on the swelling. If it is getting larger, if it starts to leak fluid, or if she isn't going back to a normal attitude when she wakes up from her nap, she needs to be examined by a vet right away as brain swelling could be fatal.
