My dog hit her head and is shaking, timid, not herself. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 years old | 20 lbs

I had accidentally hit my dog in the head with the door when letting her inside. She's been very timid, shaking non stop and not acting herself. What do I do?

If the signs persist more than 12 hours a check up would be needed both to have her checked and give appropriate treatment. Pain relief meds may be necessary.
In the meantime keep her quiet and monitor her for any other sign other than what you described (which are probably to due to mild discomfort and not specific of anything concerning).

There is something called essential head tremors are a benign tremor that usually does not progress to more concerning problems. However, other problems can cause the signs you are seeing as well, such as liver disease, low glucose levels, toxin ingestion, and seizure disorders. I agree that she should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. They may recommend lab work to out some of those concerns. Best of luck and I hope she does well.

It sounds like she is likely fine but you can watch for changes in mentation such as her acting drunken/unable to stand/walk straight, lethargy, vomiting, change in pupil size (i.e. if one pupil is larger than the other or if the pupils look extremly large or tiny), crying or whining as if in pain, and bruising or swelling. If you notice any of these, a vet visit is recommended, but most of these cases do just fine!

I think it would be ok to monitor her now. He will probably be OK, however I would closely observe him for the next 24 hrs for signs of unusual behaviors, lethargy, or vomiting. If any of this occurs, Jax needs to be taken to a veterinarian or emergency room right away to assess him for more serious complications.

If Beba is still acting tender/quieter after 12-24 hours she should be examined by her veterinarian as she could have a minor soft tissue injury, sooner if she gets worse. I would recommend keeping her activity restricted to just going outside for bathroom purposes and no running/jumping/playing. Do not give any human medication as it can be toxic to dogs.

Hi and i'm sorry to hear about Koa. I think your concern for neck pain is certainly legitimate. Getting hit on the head can also cause neck pain in some cases. There are other medications that she may need to feel better from her doctor: a muscle relaxant called roabaxin to help her aching muscles if she is having neck pain. If she still has a bump on her head and is having a fever that may be associated with infection. You could inquire about antibiotics as well from her doctor.
