When to start puppy heartworm, flea, tick meds & stop dewormer?

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Foxy lady will need 2 DHPP vacicnes 3 weeks a part in order to protect her. The 2nd one will be good for 1 year. The next vaccine the following year will be good for 3 years. She also needs a Rabies vaccine, which is required by law. She should be heart worm tested and started on heart worm pills. There are oral flea and tick medications. Nexgard is a monthly pill for flea and ticks and can be given to dogs who weigh 4 lbs or more. For Simparica she would need to be over 5.6 lbs. Bravecto is for dogs over 6 months of age and is ONE pill every 3 months and is ok for dogs over 4 lbs. Tapeworm infections are usually from fleas. The dewormer that is used is Droncit or drontal. Hello. There is no need to separate these two products. There are some heartworm products that should not be given within 2 weeks of some of tick & flea products such as Bravecto & Nexgard, but administering a dewormer will not cause a problem with your flea product. Vii can be given Heartgard (8 weeks is an appropriate age to start) but make sure you have the appropriate sized dose for Vii's weight. For fleas and ticks I recommend a monthly chewable product such as Nexgard, which is labeled for young puppies like Vii. This is a prescription product and is available from your veterinarian. I do recommend monthly heartworm prevention starting at 8 weeks of age. It is a prescription so a veterinarian does not have to personally give the pill but you need to either buy it from a vet or get a prescription from a vet. The only medication that needed to be at a veterinarian's office is Pro-heart. This is an injectable heartworm prevention that lasts for 6 months. I really like Nexgard, which is labeled for 4 lbs and up, and as young as 8 weeks. It should be available from most vets. Hope this helps!
