My puppy's eye looks very pink. Is it normal skin or an infection?

I would want to look a bit closer to be sure, but this looks normal to me. The pink skin around the eye tends to be more prominent in the areas of white fur. If you are adopting from a shelter, then they usually have a veterinarian on staff. You can ask for the vet to just check the eye before you adopt, so that you can be certain that nothing is wrong with it. I hope that helps and all is well with Bru.

The other eye has brown pigment around it instead of pink. If the whites of the globe of her eyes are pink you can try rinsing the eyes with saline solution- you may have gotten hair in them. If they continue to stay pink or you notice her scratching I would see an emergency vet to look for a scratch. Delaying treatment could make things worse and be more costly to treat. that appear to be the conjunctiva or the third eyelid. It is normally a pink color. If the rest of the eye is red or there is a mucous discharge or he is not holding the eye open, then I would get him checked. If there is otherwise no changes or signs, then I would not worry

From the picture I cannot really see if normal or not but generally speaking, patches or pink/red skin could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Poor Kai! It sounds like he has a few things going on at the moment. He could have an eye infection, allergies, or suffering trauma to his eyes causing them to be red and pink. The ear irritation could be due to an ear infection caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria. The excessive licking can be caused by itching, which in turn can be caused by fleas, mites, allergies, or ringworm. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have him seen by a vet right away for his eye problems, and the vet can diagnose all of his symptoms and can treat him for them.

From the photo, that looks to me more like a pustule (focal little infection) than a congenital defect (something he was born with). I wonder if he may have gotten a mild injury from playing with the other pups. If it hasn't gone away by the time the pup is ready to go home with you, I would make sure the breeder has the pup evaluated by their vet prior to you picking it up, or make sure the contract includes a clause that the breeder is responsible for having the bump evaluated and addressed.

Hello. I would not say that weepy eyes are normal for any puppy. It is a little difficult to say from the photo, but I get the impression that there is a little inflammation in the skin around the eyes, & maybe even a little hair loss. In puppies, this could just be a mild infection, or even the presence of demodectic mange. A simple skin scrape can determine if this is mange, & it is generally pretty easy to clear up. If this is the puppy you have your heart set on, then have the breeder take him to their veterinarian with the stipulation that all clinical notes are sent to your veterinarian. If this is not possible, then I would make some arrangement to take your new puppy to your veterinarian within a day or so of you obtaining him. You can discuss if anything is found, how much the breeder might compensate you for the cost of the puppy, if you like. Otherwise, he is a beautiful puppy!
